School last night wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be, mainly because God made sure we ran out of time and didn’t have time to do the things I was dreading!
An interesting question came up though:
Is Jesus still human?……
My immediate answer to ‘Is Jesus still human?’ was no, duh!
But then I started thinking about it and I think I might agree with what our professor said:
“What was Jesus after His resurrection?”
You see, after Jesus was resurrected, He ascended into heaven. As in, He was taken up there as He was. So let’s follow the train of events.
Jesus was born and was fully human in every way that we are human.
Jesus was crucified and his body died like yours or mine would.
Jesus was buried.
Jesus was RESURRECTED – and that’s an important word. Ressurected means ‘having been returned to life’. Jesus’ body was gone from the grave because it had been returned to life. The same body. The scars were still there. It was the SAME body.
Therefore, Jesus was still human.
In fact, He HAD to still be human because otherwise, death wouldn’t have been defeated, death would still have had victory over his human body.
Jesus then acsended into heaven, with His human body.
Think about that for a moment.
When you pray, you are not just praying to someone who knows what it felt like to be human but someone who knows what it FEELS like to be human. It’s not something in the past, it’s something in the present.
Jesus is totally God but He is still fully human.
Maybe that doesn’t make a whole lot of difference, but then… God created us to be His friends. What He created was good. In fact, it was so good that when Jesus returned to heaven, He kept his human body. It was WORTH KEEPING. Being human is something worthwhile. Being human is not something to be ashamed of. If it’s good enough for the Son of God, it’s good enough for me!
God bless
Peter
