This happens often.
Open your eyes and ears and you will find so much to inspire you!
My inspiration this time came from a blog called The Bible Post.
For some time I have been discussing with one of my closest friends the fact that we struggle to hold on to Godly truths and promises because we don’t remember what they are!
How can we learn and remember what they are? Start memorising the bible, verse by verse, passage by passage.
We need to imprint in in our minds so that our lives can be directed by it and we can fall back on its truths whenever we need them.
My proposal then is this: let’s start memorizing verses together.
Here’s how I propose we do it:
- Every week I will place a new ‘Verse of the week’ at the top right hand side of my blog here at http://blog.hafchurch.org/peter.
- When I post the verse I will also write a blog post announcing it. The first time you see that post read the verse and leave a comment about what that verse says to you, what it means to you.
- Every day, read that verse aloud and start to commit it to memory. Repeating it like that every day for 7 days should mean that you have it memorized by the end of the week.
- At the end of the week, leave another comment saying what that verse means to you now.
Why leave two comments? Simple – Gods word is deep and speaks on many, many different levels. As you read and re-read the same verse or passage of scripture, God will speak to you and reveal new things to you about His love and plan for you and for this world. The second comment is to encourage others with what you have learned from God this week.
We’ll do a trial run over the next few days:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
For me, this is one of the most foundational verses of our faith. It encapsulates the gospel in one verse.
God loves the world so much that He gave His one and only son to save it, to save us, to save ME! How amazing is that!?!
God just made it so simple didn’t he: He loves, we sin, Jesus dies, and all we have to do is believe to have everlasting life!!
You are right its just too awesome.
and sometimes our human nature says “its just to simple” I think thats why many stumble. I know I struggled with that. It was like if it can’t be hard and something I have to work at and spend alot time figuring out (lol like a math problem in my case) then its just to easy to be true. But that is His love, and it is easy, all we have to do is accept the Truth how hard should that be when we accept lies all the time just to find out that they are false. Dad has been talking alot that it all comes back to “Will I just believe that He is who He says He is and is He trustworthy?” again just so simple.
lol thank you for starting with a verse I already know 😉
and I love this Idea and Thank you , I’m going to accept your challenge and also besides leaving you the comment I know for myself I will have to write it down and journal about it so thank you for giving me that extra nudge 🙂
love Erin
Wow. Such a powerful one. For me this verse means freedom from bondage, health, restoration, joy, peace, love that abounds ALL and never stops loving. It means I get to be loved by Jesus while in the world and I get to spend eternity worshiping Him and Papa.
Brookie, you have such an awesome way of thinking about and talking about your relationship with God.
You should start blogging!
I mean it!
