God did not create me to manage people. Frankly, I suck at it. I would highly recommend a spiritual gifts assessment to any and all people before they dive into leadership -- especially church leadership. My gifts are mercy, encouragement, creativity and sarcasm. (That last one hasn't made the list yet, but it's only a matter of time.) What I love about our tiny little church plant is that we have managers and visionaries; big picture folks and those with an eye for detail. In the Body of Christ, we are each a part, working together with the other parts. In management, people rise to the level of their incompetence.

Many want the head leader/pastor to be everything and when you try to let them step up and use their strengths they don't know what to do with themselves! I agree though, everything would be a lot simpler if we focused on our strengths (and everyone was willing to use their strengths for the benefit of the community). Great post! Michael Hyatt sounds like that type of leader. He must be a great mentor/role model for those sound him.
