This is excellent. My dad died when I was 17. I don’t know if we would have had a conversation like this, but I know it would have helped. I had a hard time, manifested even more after I got married at 20. It’s still an issue I think, but God has done some amazing things.

I appreciate the reminder and I’m doing my best to prepare my sons now even though they’re still relatively young. Good stuff!

Sarah, as a starting point I would recommend you get a copy of “The Way of the Wild Heart,” by John Eldredge – available thru most Christian book stores and from Amazon.

John addresses some of these issues in the chapter “Raising the Cowboy.”

I think you’ll find it helpful and enlightening in dealing with boys in general and the fatherless in particular.

I love what’s been said here. And it’s very insightful. But for those of us who work with the fatherless… What can we do to affirm the young men who don’t have fathers to affirm them?
