Our Messiest Moment

I received information about Clorox’s Bleach It Away campaign and am sharing my messy moment for the chance to win prizes from The SITS Girls. To learn more about the messy moment program, check out www.BleachItAway.com.  Sharing your story on the Clorox fan page gets you entered for the chance to win $25,000 and daily prizes, and you can grab a coupon for Clorox® Regular Bleach.

Our messiest moment was a fun, family-filled day… and couldn’t have come at a worse time.

The family was all gathered for my sister-in-law’s wedding. I don’t know how many people stayed at our house that night, but it was a lot and the plan was to get up and all get ready and go to the wedding together.

That’s when my niece happened.

I say ‘happened’ because it’s not that she did anything wrong, per se, she just ‘happened’ to the house.

I think it was sometime between four and five in the morning that she got up to use the upstairs bathroom and didn’t realize that, when she flushed, the toilet both blocked and got stuck refilling.

The result was that the bowl overflowed, and flowed, and flowed and flowed….

It wasn’t until hours later that someone woke up and found an inch or two of water in the bathroom.. and the kitchen, which is beneath it.

It was a MESS!

The hole left in our kitchen ceiling by the flood upstairsTook a little more than a couple of wipes to clean THAT up!

Somehow, no matter how much we cleaned, it just seemed to get worse:

Eventually though, we cleaned it all up (with a LOT of help from our friends) and everything looks wonderful now… better even than before!

And that’s the thing with messes, often they have to get worse before they can get better… but when they do, they just leave behind a story to tell.

I told the story of my ‘messiest moment’ but truly, my messiest moment probably wasn’t something physical like this but was rather a time when I emotionally and spiritually was a ‘mess’.

I’m sure the mess I’ve been in at times is far worse than anything that happened in our house that day but fortunately, God is a GREAT cleaner and he cleans up the mess that is me time after time after time leaving me with nothing but a story to tell of how bad I was and how great He is!

How about you? What’s your messiest moment?

Was it something physical or was it something emotional or spiritual?

How did your mess get cleaned up?

I can relate. We had the same thing happen to us … during a weekend getaway that was cut short by a 5AM phone call. Ours had run from around midnight until that 5AM phone call. We packed and rushed home, only to spent the rest of our weekend cleaning out our finished basement and throwing stuff away. On an emotional or spiritual level, I have too many messy moments to pick just one — choices I have made or choices others have made that have directly impacted me. I am still dealing with the clean up process on some of them. I have discovered that some of them can only be dealt with by the Lord and I am abiding in Him during the wait.
