Literally Giving Them Away

Finding the right price to charge for your book is HARD. Charge too much and no-one will but them, charge too little and and you’ll feel like you’re practically giving them away!

I think I’ve got the prices just about right with A Very Different School, but please feel free to tell me if you think I’m charging too much or too little.

HOWEVER… whether or not I feel like I’m practically giving them away at the price they’re at, I’m LITERALLY giving them away on this week.

All About

If you don’t know about, it’s a site where you can go and recommend and get recommendations of ‘good reads’.

The basic concept is that you have a ‘bookshelf’ and as you read books or find books that you want to read, you can put them on your virtual ‘shelf’ and categorize them, ‘Read’, ‘Currently Reading’ or ‘Want to Read’.

You can then score books from one to five stars and write reviews, if you feel so inclined.

The real genius comes though with the social aspect. Good Reads will link into your Facebook or twitter account and find your friends so that it can show you what they are recommending and vice versa.

The Benefit of Giveaways

One of the wonderful little extras they have for authors is the ability to give books away for free. The benefit to the author is that, during the giveaway period, the book is listed in the giveaways section for all to see and many, many people enter quite a few of which add the book to their ‘Want to Read’ shelf.

If they then don’t win the giveaway, the book is still sitting there, un-purchased, on their shelf just begging to be bought and read.

Obviously, hopefully the people who DO win will love it so much they’ll tell all their friends to buy a dozen copies. They might not, but either way you’ve still got lots of great exposure.

My giveaway has been up for four days (at the time of writing this) and 135 people have entered the giveaway with 57 adding it to their ‘to read’ shelf.

The Ball’s in YOUR Court

… and now it’s your turn. If you like to read, Good Reads is a great place to find new books. You can enter to win dozens of books on the site to increase your library for free and, most importantly, you could win a copy of A Very Different School, by Peter Pollock (i.e. me)

If you’re not between 6 and 10 years old, this might not be the perfect book for you but I’ve heard from some adults who enjoyed reading it, so who knows…. only one way to find out, I guess 😉

Please, please, please, if you have a friend (or even more than one friend) who has kids, tell them about the giveaway. I’m giving away ten copies so there’s a good chance they’ll win. The book is a retelling of the Easter story as seen by a group of time-traveling school kids who visit all the major events surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection and see what happened first-hand.

The giveaway can be found here:

If you’ve read the book, I’d love for you to review it on Amazon, GoodReads, your blog, Facebook or wherever you like. Good or bad reviews, I want them all. I keep telling people they should buy the book so, if you’ve read it and think the opposite, then please feel free to balance out my suggestions with your opinions!

About PeterP

I am a blogger, author, stay at home dad, speaker, web hosting trainer and geek (I was so excited to get an iPad that I actually made up a song and dance about it). I am English by birth, but currently live in California with my wife and our three children. I ran a web hosting business for nine years and found that many, if not most of my clients had never learned how to use any of the functions associated with hosting so I wrote a book to try and teach just those skills. I must admit to having fallen in love with WordPress (possibly a little TOO much) and I honestly find it hard to understand why anyone would use anything different to build a site! WordPress is wonderful! My passion is to help others achieve their goals with their websites/blogs. I believe that, with a little help, anyone can have an awesome site.
