Don’t Pre-Order My Book!

My book, Web Hosting For Dummies is due to be released on May 13th, 2013. That’s less than four weeks away so I’m really starting to ramp-up the marketing now, but I’d love it if you could wait to order it for just a little while – and I’ll tell you why:

Id like you to NOT pre-order the book but to buy it some time in the week of May 13, 2013 – May 17, 2013.

This may sound counterproductive and might land me in hot water with the marketing team over at Wiley, but there’s a good reason for this odd request – and I want you to be a part of it.

My One Shot

I have mentioned before that I’m treating this like it will be my only commercially published book ever. It’s a great honor for Wiley to have placed enough trust in me to write it, but it took me 38 years to land this first contract, and if it takes me as long to land another then by that time we probably won’t even have paper books any more!

So this is it, this is my one shot, my fifteen minutes of fame, my one chance to make it big and I’ve set myself some ridiculously high targets, such as making the New York Times Bestsellers list.

I will readily admit that such a goal is not only crazy for a first-time author but also rather self-serving so I have thought long and hard about asking you to help me with this, but I think I’ve come up with a way to thank you that will make it worth it.

Help Me Reach My Goals and Get Bonuses

You are the key to me reaching my goals and I can’t do it without you so I have put together a package of three bonuses which I will give FREE to anyone who buys Web Hosting For Dummies between May 13th and May 17th.

Here are the three bonuses:

  1. In addition to the bonus content available on the website, I am making a series of videos to accompany the book which, together with the book’s step-by-step guides will help you master your hosting account and make full use of what you’re paying for. These videos will include guides on where to find facilities on multiple different control panels, helping tailor the information to your particular hosting provider.
  2. Access to a special Facebook group where Web Hosting For Dummies readers can discuss their new-found hosting-ninja skills and share tips and tricks with each other. I’ll be stopping by the group regularly to try to answer some questions and get involved in the conversations, too.
  3. A discount off of one of my up-coming workshops where I’ll give you hands-on tutorials on some of the content covered in Web Hosting For Dummies and you can spend the day with me honing your skills and becoming expert at things like FTP, backups, creating email addresses, Cron jobs and more!

The videos and Facebook group will eventually be opened up to all Web Hosting For Dummies purchasers but there will be a cost for the videos and they won’t be available for at least a month, so not only do you get them free, you get them FIRST.

How Will it Work?

I’ll let you know sometime around the beginning of May how you can get your bonuses, but it will be easy enough to do and you should have access to all the bonuses the same day you apply.

What if You’ve Already Pre-Ordered it?

I have been blown away by the number of people who have jumped up and said they’ll pre-order Web Hosting For Dummies and while those pre-orders won’t count toward the sales in that week to get me onto the bestsellers lists, I am incredibly appreciative of your support and your trust in me.

It wouldn’t be right to ignore those fantastic early-adopters so I’m also making the bonus package available to anyone who pre-ordered the book BEFORE April 16th, 2013.

If you pre-order or buy it between now and the release date, you won’t get the bonuses but everyone whose pre-order confirmation says they put in their order on April 15th, 2013 or earlier will.

YOU can be a part of this and, if it succeeds, you can brag to all your friends that you helped make Web Hosting For Dummies a bestseller! 🙂

Sign up Now so You Don’t Miss Out

Sign up to the special mailing list below and I’ll send you a reminder so you don’t forget to buy the book between May 13th and May 17th and I’ll also be able to send you all the details of how to claim your bonuses.

I won’t spam you or give/sell your details to anyone else, this is just so I can keep in touch with you about it.

I’d love it if you’d tell all your friends about this very special offer and direct them here so they can sign up, too.

I am a blogger, author, stay at home dad, speaker, web hosting trainer and geek (I was so excited to get an iPad that I actually made up a song and dance about it). I am English by birth, but currently live in California with my wife and our three children. I ran a web hosting business for nine years and found that many, if not most of my clients had never learned how to use any of the functions associated with hosting so I wrote a book to try and teach just those skills. I must admit to having fallen in love with WordPress (possibly a little TOO much) and I honestly find it hard to understand why anyone would use anything different to build a site! WordPress is wonderful! My passion is to help others achieve their goals with their websites/blogs. I believe that, with a little help, anyone can have an awesome site.

  1. Will this apply to both hard copy and Kindle versions?

Mostly because I’m not sure which version I’ll purchase, but I’ll definitely wait for the right time to purchase so as to support you and get some nice bonus content!

    Best of luck Peter!

    1. Hi Marc,

Yes, it will apply to any and all versions of the book.

I’ll basically just be asking for a proof of purchase showing the date, so whether it’s an ebook or paper copy won’t matter.

      Kind regards,

  2. As a fellow designer, I know web hosting fairly well, but I will gladly purchase the book for extra tidbits of knowledge… and I will certainly recommend this to my clients that think they don’t need me for maintenance. 😀

    1. Hi Cindy, thanks for dropping by.

As a former web host, I want my former clients who didn’t think they needed me for maintenance to read this AND the ones who DID think they needed me for every last little bit of maintenance that they could easily have done themselves if they had just had this book 🙂
