Oh to think like a child

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while, we’ve been away at a cabin in the mountains where there’s no cell phone service let alone Internet access!

One night while we were there, my parents took my daughter outside to see the stars.

Up in the mountains the view of the night sky is awesome. There is very little or no ambient light so the usual few thousand stars that you see become millions.

My daughter, who is 4, has been having trouble sleeping at night because she has a very active imagination and has started to be afraid that ‘bad people’ are going to break in at night and either kidnap or hurt her. no amount of rationalization or prayer seems to permanently settle her mind, every time she hears a siren outside she thinks that the bad men are coming.

What happened at the cabin was quite amazing though:

She looked up at the stars and said something along the lines of ‘oh, now I can see how many stars God made, I know He can protect me from the bad people. If He can make all of those stars then he must be able to look after me.’

What a great example to all of us.

When a child looks at God’s workmanship, she recognizes His power and might. When we look at it, we question whether He even exists.

If only we could retain or regain the innocence of youth and learn to see the Creator in His creation.

Sometimes it’s like we can’t see the wood for the trees. The majesty and wonder of creation overwhelms us and we can’t see for looking!

Next time you step outside your door, try opening your eyes to see the signature of God written on everything you see.
