It’s been a hectic few months.
When you’re in a house church, things like summer vacations can really mess up the flow of the ministry, especially when you’re in a very small house church like ours.
Travel season is coming to an end though and the kids will soon be back in school.
It’s time to get our ministry back on track, to refocus and to reignite the passion and mission of the Church.
I need to get reenergized and find some new direction.
Two books I’ve read recently (The Firstborn and If God Were Real) are helping with that but I think I’m in need of a season of prayer and fasting.
How about you? Are you focused on the mission God has for you?
How’s the house church working for you? Some friends of mine have started having church at home with a few families. We already pray together and serve together with them. We’re tempted to join them in their house church. However, we also see God using us in the church we attend so we are torn.
I’m reading Total Church by Chester and Timmis right now.
I think the clear advantage (among others for sure) of a house church is the community within the church encouraging each other to love and affect the community around them. It’s impossible to hide out in a house church and much too tempting to hide out in a large church.
I believe a few of my pastors (if not all) have the same vision I do for building community groups within our larger church. In effect, creating smaller house churches that gather together once a week for a larger corporate worship. My prayer is that God moves them to actually do something about it. That’s where I still feel called to stay – to see if God will use me to get something started.
On the flip side, my heart is with our friends and their house church and their ministry.
I know what you mean about the summer months. We’re not a house church, but we are certainly small enough that if 2 or 3 families are out of town, there’s a giant gaping hole!
For me, I think there’s a time of fasting coming, but I’ve been praying these last months and almost feel an overabundance of direction (that’s certainly not always the case!). Now the hard thing is to know which step to take next and how to walk out the amazing things God wants to do in our community. It’s an exciting yet intense time for our church and the Church.
