It has been a while since I have posted an interview. I have a few lined up and really need to get back into the swing of it.

This week’s interview is with a lady who apparently has a real name but will always be Katdish to me. Anything else just doesn’t fit!

Katdish writes ‘Hey look, a chicken‘ which is a quirky blog with moments of brilliance and moments of… well… umm… well, you’ll see. This post is an example of whatever it is. She’s hilarious though!

She also writes on the blog ‘Fellowship of the traveling smartypants‘, which is a little like Lord of the Rings. Or not.

So, without further ado, let’s get on with the interview:

First off, who are you? 

Well, frankly Pete, I’m a bit disappointed in your first question. How about something interesting like “If you were a tree, what type of tree would you be?” (Dogwood, incidentally.) But, okay if you insist. I’m a ragamuffin, Christ follower, wife, mom, painter, church planter, procrastinator and, more recently a blogger worthy of an interview. Some people tell me I’m also a bit of a smart, um…alec.

What is your blog about?

Ha! Hmmm….that depends on my mood. I once wrote a post entirely from the perspective of my miniature dachshund, Buddy Love. I’ve written posts about buying stuff in the Skymall catalog, I’ve written a series of posts comparing people on my blog roll to cartoon characters, I’ve written serious posts about my faith, my family and my friends. And, of course there’s always the occasional prosperity gospel rant. (Those are my favorite.)

Why did you get into blogging?

Probably for the same reasons many of my blogger pals did — My comments on other people’s blogs were getting long enough to be considered posts in themselves.

How often do you write new posts?

I’m a bit of a scatterbrain, when my mind wanders, I’ll start writing about it, so I’ve always got at least 3 or 4 things I’m working on. On a good week, I’ll get 5 or 6 posts “blog ready”.

What is the best thing about blogging for you?

Without a doubt, the sense of community, especially within the Christian blogging community. I don’t know if I’d go so far to say that I write a Christian blog, because it’s often just pure silliness, and not all my readers are Christians. But I have been amazed how really close I’ve become with people I’ve never even met in person. Plus, I think the best part of my blog is the back and forth banter in the comments section. If my cluster map gadget works like it says it does, I have about a 90 to 1 ratio readers to comments, but I love when people leave comments. Otherwise I feel like I’m just talking to myself.

Apart from your blog, which other blogs would you recommend we read ? 

Well, since I can only recommend three, my first choice would have to be The Fellowship of the Traveling Smartypants which is a collaborative blog where several bloggers just write whatever is on their mind. BTW Peter, you’re welcome to join in the fun if you want.

(Editors note: Thanks Katdish, after you offered, I did post once but my inspiration for totally rockin’ posts has been a bit thin on the ground. I’ll post again some day… maybe a story about Lemmings…)
I’m not going to plug my friend Jon’s blog because that dude does not need any help from little ole me! (Editor’s note: Jon writes the blog ‘Stuff Christians Like’. I won’t plug it either because I’m jealous that he has more readers than me) So my next choice would have to be Last Row written by my friend Laz. He writes a little of everything, but he definitely an unapologetic Christian blogger. I’ve read his comments section before when an atheist will challenge him and I found myself feeling sorry for the atheist for ever leaving a comment. He is just scary smart and I’m sure glad he’s on our team. (Even if he is an awkward Star Wars geek.)

Last one would be Connecting to Impact by your friend Jason. Pastors like you and Jason give me hope for the future and give credibility to the ways my little church plant is attempting to Love God and people, Live in community and Serve the world — or maybe we’re all just crazy.

Now, if you’ll excuse me we’ve got church in my living room in about 11 hours and I think my dog just pooped on the rug. (Sorry, can I say “poop” on your blog?)

No Katdish, you may not say “poop” on my blog. I try to keep this a respectable place!

After being roundly abused by Katdish for the weakness of my first question, I asked her: If you were a building, which building or type of building would it be? Mine would be a pub or bar because people often come out of it confused and unable to walk straight.

She replied: 

Oh, that’s easy.  I would be the building formerly known as The Summit – Home to the World Champion Houston Rockets and currently occupied by the “Fellowship of Excitement” better known as Lakewood, or simply Joel Osteen’s church.  Cuz I’d be down like Jesus in a temple clearing rampage!  How’s that?

Ummm… OK… Now I’m scared!
