This coming Monday is our thirteenth wedding anniversay.
To celebrate, I’m taking my wife away to Denver, Colorado (thanks to Hilton Hhonors hotel points).
We’re going to be away for four nights, which will be the longest we’ve been away from our kids since we had our first almost eight years ago.
This is also going to be our first time away from them for more than a night since in three years.
I am SO looking forward to it!
Anyway, we’ve never been to Denver before and I’ve been researching things to do there and have a long list of possible activities but I was wondering, anyone who has ever been there, what you would recommend we should do or see while we are there. Are there any places we simply MUST visit? Restaurants we should walk past and wish we had the money to eat at?
What are your recommendations for things to do in Denver while you’re alive?
Well, I can tell you the airport is huge. 🙂 I have been there many times! I have been outside the airport, but I didn't stay in Denver. I drove elsewhere. All that to say, I really can't offer much help!
When Andrea and I went to Sacramento we used the Urbanspoon app (and google maps app) on my iPhone quite a bit. It was very helpful.
I like big airports.
I've never heard of Urbanspoon… searching for it now.
THANKS, Jason!
Not sure if you're a sports fan, but the Rockies game would be a first on my list. Broncos just started their preseason. Not sure if they are playing while you are here though. The Denver Mint and the Denver Museum are both fun and interesting. But most of all, get out and do some hiking, and bring your camera along! If you can go up to Rocky Mountain National Forest (in Estes Park), you'll be glad you did! It's a ways from Denver (maybe an hour and a half), but it is SO worth it. I love going up there for picnics and fishing!
There's always Pearl Street Mall in Boulder. I hear it's uber famous. I hate Boulder and refuse to go. But if you don't mind a lot of hippies and pot heads, take a stroll down Pearl Street! LOL
I REALLY wanted to take my wife to a Rockies game but they're playing in Arizona or somewhere every day we're there 🙁
Might go tour the stadium though.
Thanks for the wonderful advice!
Oh, bummer!!! 🙁
The only time I've been to Denver was when I went on ski trips, so I could probably tell you about several rental car places. That's all I got.
Thanks. Very Helpful. I might be calling you for directions to the car hire place though 🙂
How close?
We might be looking for a church to go to on Sunday morning….
I'll send you a link to our church website! It's kind of in between me and Denver, so that might work. 🙂 Hubby preached last Sunday. Too bad you couldn't come then!
Anyway … I'll email ya' link.
Peter! You are SO blessed to be going to the very best city in the US!
16th Street Mall and Larimer Square are a must. Park at one end of the mall and use the free shuttle. If you have a day to spare, a drive up to Rocky Mountain National Park before it closes for the autumn would be an experience you won't forget the rest of your life. Casa Bonita is definitely fun, but it's more flash than good Mexican food. For the best Mexican food, any restaurant off Federal Blvd. is a good bet. If you go to Colorado Springs (65 miles south) I think you can still drive all the way to the very top of Pikes Peak.
Give yourself extra time to navigate DIA, and keep in mind that it's WAY outside the city to the northeast. A rental car will make life more pleasant for sure.
And by the way, if heights bother you, Pikes Peak and Rocky Mountain National Park may not be for you. If you do head to the mountains, dress in layers. It can snow up there 365 days a year, and the wind may be absolutely wicked above timberline. Temperature drops 4 degrees for every 1000 feet of altitude you go up.
Have a blast! 😀
That blue stallion is hideous. But anyone living within 100 miles of Denver is prone to being rabid over the Broncos. Seriously. I'd avoid wearing clothes with logos from any other NFL team.
Hi Peter! Happy Anniversary!
I have a blogging question for you. I'm asking because my friends feel that you know a lot about blogs — especially word press blogs.
When I clicked on your RSS feed, I was given 2 pages in succession that let me choose my Google reader. Easy. This is also true for @katdish's blog. However, when I click on the RSS button for some word press blogs, I get a page of html. This happened to me recently in a number of cases.
For example when I clicked on the RSS button for @PrairieLady's new blog, I got a page of html at http://thebrokenquill.com/feed/ !! I asked her about it and she mentioned that she would ask you.
Well, I figured when I hadn't heard back from her, I would check her blog out again. Still the same results.
Can you explain to me why this is and whether I should do something more/different to subscribe?
I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.
God Bless You ~Ron
too little too late…but I live there! WOuld have loved to give it away! You have a good trip?
